I am here today to say that, I love you all, thank you so much for following me throughout the years on here with squadvillage and with tribal punk neko.

This will be the last post ever Written on this blog.

However, do not fear, the story has NOT ended.

Type the word “Lesbian” into search. The page will appear with seemingly sordid results, but waiting roughly halfway down the page there is a diamond of a lesbian resort waiting to be discovered by new members.

Greek Gold Lesbian Resort, affectionately shortened to GGLR by its patrons and residents is an increasingly popular lesbian hotspot which caters to a wide range of the lesbians including butches, femmes, bois and trans people.

In my opinion there are a few factors that set aside GGLR from the other more mainstream lesbian places in Second Life. The main one being the sense of community that binds its visitors.

On each of my visits, upon arrival to either the landing zone or the dance floor, there has always a member of staff readily available to say hello whether it be a manager, DJ or greeter.
Owner, Hera Emms has made it almost impossible to get bored on a visit here.

Activities available include Boxing, an arcade, paint-ball, regular weekly live music performances, and daily events and contests around the clock to suit every time zone.

These events, always with live DJ's regularly draw crowds of 20+, with everyone having a good time together. No cliques or drama which is a hard thing to find sometimes!

As well as this, GGLR also boasts competitively priced residential rentals within the SIM.
In conclusion, I think the atmosphere here has to be experienced by anyone searching for a fantastic women only environment. Its established its place in the meta-verse and I have a feeling that anyone visiting will not be disappointed.

In letzter Zeit war mir aufgefallen, daß immer mehr femdom-Artikel immer teurer waren, oder nicht den Bedürfnissen entsprachen, die ich an sie hatte.

Der logische Schritt war sie selber zu erstellen, um sie sowohl texturmässig als auch vom Design her so zu gestalten wie es mir im Sinn war.

So begann ich mit einer Möbelserie in der Punishment-Anis als auch Cruddle-Anis zu finden sind.

Ausserdem entstand ein Betschrank, wie auch ein Schuhschrank für Cockoldplay und Fussfetish.

Nadeln und Schwerter kann ich ebenfalls auf Wunsch herstellen.

Pflanzen fertige ich auf Wunsch ebenfalls köstengünstig. Diese können sein, Hängepflanzen, Blühsträucher und Bäume in jeder Form.

Auf Anfrage gibt es Goreanische Möbel sowie passendes Zubehör.

Diese Dinge zu entwerfen und zu bauen bereitet mir sehr viel Freude. Die Anerkennung der bisherigen Kunden ist hoch und unterstreicht die Tatsache, dass die Dinge von auserlesener Qualität sind.

Chapter 6: Looking Good

So I had a job dancing at a club,
a new Domme and a good handful of friends growing daily.

I wanted more, I wanted new clothing,
I wanted to look kool.

Also I wanted to spend some money on my new Love,
so I applied to be a hostess at the club,
to run the contests and be more in the eyes of the guests at the club,
they usually tipped the hosts and DJ's back when vixen's DJ's were a ground called "Club 69",
which I think are still about but really aren't doing to well from what their own former DJ's have said.

Needless to say,
I was happy, and things were going well.

But Alice and her curiosity will always chase that rabbit down that whole.
So while making my money I was also learning how to build and make stuff,
through building I was making two different little groups of friends,
so In my SL evening I would be hosting and in my SL day time I would be making and exploring,
the group of friends I made through building were primarily furrys,
these are people to personally identify with animals,
while choosing to dress and act like animals do.

Some go to bigger extremes with in trying to be animals,
either way they are a lot of fun and I myself at one point would only dress up as an animal in Second Life and in my spare time in the real world.

However since then I have came to terms with being comfortable in being me,
where I don't really follow any one particular crowd,
however I do identify with a variety of different social crowds and groups.

Chapter 5: You have money huh.

So I went back to the club owner and explained my name change,
Tes Tiramisu,
the club owner was irritated by my immaturity but told me in better words that,
she believed in second chances.

Allowing me to rejoin the staff and my friends at Club Vixens.

What I didn't expect though was that when I confided in Tes that I wanted to meet someone new,
fun, interesting and mature,
she introduced me to one of her two girlfriends.

Mina was stunning,
she had a good sense of humor and was flirtatious to boot.

At this point I would like to introduce the fact that I am a lesbian,
in real life and on Second Life,
I do not hide this and I am not a man hiding behind a screen just hoping to screw women by dressing up as a woman,
this is common in Second Life and 9 times out of 10 the guys who do it will usually tell you,
"I play as a woman because I don't want to look at a guys butt",
it is absolute rubbish.

Girls if you are dating a guy who plays Second Life and is telling you that is the reason,
they are cheating on you,
I will be polite and tell you that not all guys do that,
but 9 out of 10.

Anyway, back to Mina,
she was a fire cracker of a girl,
never met anyone that weird and wonderful all at the same time.

We spent one night talking and getting to know each other,
we were both smitten,
Mina was the jealous type,
which worked well for me,
for the most part as I wasn't really that keen on being a whore.

Chapter 4: My First Land, First breakup, New Name?

That's when you always get that gut feeling about things not being right,
you know when things are "too" perfect,
My suspicions rouse as my girlfriend began bringing back these strangers with her to my brand new Little 512 sq m.

I don't mind having an open relationship,
as long as everything is honest,
One thing I cannot handle even till this day is lying.
After a lengthy argument we broke up,
not realising of course the girlfriend I was dating,
was probably as childish as I was mentally,
she began making up weird shit about me,
telling my friends I was doing god knows what.

Eventually I had her ejected from a handful of the groups we were both in after discovering her real age,
she was 17 and I was 18,
so my age was OK,
I didn't mind dating a 17 year old,
I mean come on I was what a year older.

However the Lindens had and still do have a problem with minors on the adult SecondLife grid,
baring that in mind SecondLife back then did not have a teen grid.
So she was removed very quickly,
the issue was that the friends we shared then viewed me as a monster.

So after thinking long and hard,
I decided enough was enough,
all the harassment was purely to much.
I logged out.

Forgot my password,
many people on SecondLife will tell you and anyone,
that SecondLife is addictive,
this is one of the trust statements that any player on the game will ever utter to you.

A week later I went back to the website and created Roxie,
on previous games I was Roxie,
so I was going to be me in SecondLife,
but I never had a surname with my Roxie handle before and I was not one to make a joke of myself back then as every teenager is so serious,
you know that comes from them knowing everything as well.
So I settled to be Roxie Logan from then on,
it was a realistic type of name and I enjoyed the sound of it.

Chapter 3: So month 3?

After 3 months of fumbling around and exploring,
I found myself being thrown head first into wanting to make money.
I had already found a club to hang out at, so I applied to work there,
being single I had no reason to hold back,
so while working for the club I also asked about if any of the Dominants who were running the club would want me.

A hand full laughed at my noobishness and other just geared..
Needless to day this wasn't fast or easy,
one of the club dancers was nice enough to take me shopping and brought me my very first Furry avatar.

After this, having a jazzy new avatar and having the freedom to talk to who I wanted to,
I began making my very first friends in the game,
which for me was a big step,
after all I was brought to the game by someone I was very close to;
It was not the easiest thing to do making new friends,
being 18, single and having my ex die on me,
I was rather an emotional individual,
emotional being the polite frame of mind.

If you were to be honest I had turned into a bitchy little monster,
that and I hated the world,
as most teenagers do.

being 18 make you an adult many people like to say,
I don't buy that,
18 you are still a teenager because your age has the word "Teen" in it!

Taking time to adjust I had made some enemies,
some friends and some virtual lovers.
I call them lovers because you have to be fair,
being a newbie you never want something serious ideally.

I have never been a person for monogamy at this point in my life either.
So through the course of my actions and my childlike intellect,
I balanced my real life love life,
with my online promiscuity,
take that as it is because I believe in being honest.

Having a full time girlfriend at this time after making peace,
that my ex lover would be happier that I was moving on,
everything seemed wonderful.

Chapter 2: Getting to grips.

Yadni was pioneering with his new Freebie warehouse,
which was the first of it's kind,
being that SecondLife has just switched over from being a pay to play online game to allowing residents to join SecondLife for free.

Furnation was just setting up for the first time with one of the first privately owned sims,
that grew in popularity very quickly and with in the space of 5 months had grown to 7 sims,
as peoples demand for more space at furnation grew.

Personally I feel as if,
I joined SecondLife,
just as it was really taking off and being born,
people were learning to make money.

Having fun and turned Second Life from being a purely Linden creation into the Second Life Users creation.
The Lindens of course were ecstatic about this development adding in 3 Sandboxes to the main land.
Having signs on what different prim types you could make.

Introducing the Library feature to every users account inventory,
allowing users to look at things the Lindens themselves had made,
allowing people to edit the parts to see how things work.

Of course I was all excited about making new friends and this new club I stumbled on.
Unfortunately with every story truth or fiction there has to be some grizzly bits and there are a good handful of both.

My Second Life adventure really only truly began when my love Sofie passed away on the 19th of January 2006,
This will always sound as if I was happy about it,
but believe you me for any 18 year old to loose their first love it was not a walk in the picnic by any means.
But hurt deeply I knew that Sofie wouldn't want me to be mourning her forever and a day,
so I set out to make new friends,
giving this new game a good go at it.

However being a SecondLife "newbie" is a lot like being a child,
you walk about naked thinking it's hilarious that you can be an adult on this game,
do what you like, and no one is really going to be upset about it.
The freedom was immense,
being 18 I will let you image half the things I found fun and funny to do in a game that had very few limits and a few thousand players.

A Second Life Story. The Beginning.

Roxie's Story. Chapter 1:
In The Beginning I was a NOOB!

The Date is the 28th of November 2005.
I started out on other online games, Worlds.com and Moove.com
while dabbling in others like habbohotel and there.com.
Eventually being dragged to SL by a Lover I had on moove.com,
My first Domme in real life and online.

Sofie pleaded with me to join SecondLife for months,
before I finally gave in and made the switch.

Finally giving into it,
I started my Second Life as Therease Collingwood,
being so young I was very aggressive,
boisterous towards just about everyone I met on Second Life.

Like everyone I explored,
had fun even learnt how to create basic content.

As me and Sofie broke up through exploring,
meeting people I stumbled across a group of new women.
Who had just started a club on the mainland sim of Sesia called Vixens,
this was a small club that had a hand full of people,
Also on the Neighbouring sim was a casino,
this was back when gambling in Second Life was legal,
when people used to hang out playing games like slingo which was the new hot thing as it had only just been invented.

This was before camping came in and the idea of playing people to say on your land wasn't even
thought of by the general public of SecondLife.

We've had a selection of good ideas for the tribe in sl.
we've been testing various fads in second life for the tribes success.

some have been good.
some not so good.

our leading supporter would be from AW Designs working with FickleFee
on top of that the work from Quantum Blue in SL has helped us succeed in our drive to
create an interesting merge of Punk accessories, skins, outfits and nekoism utilitys.

We hope you take time to come and find us in game and help us drive for another good year.
still using our older trade name as Squad Village but
also welcoming our new persona as Tribal Punk Neko.

We will be having up coming reviews of SecondLife and working more towards what our main goal always was to help SecondLifers create a better and more friendly community while connecting some of the best designers and places of interest we have discovered that have the good time family welcoming feel you've all received from SV and TPN in the past.

So a few months / weeks
you all knew i went to canada for a month
then i came home and said hi.
then i went very very quiet.

i got some im's "where you at?"
and some messages when i do make an appereance "oh it's good to see you".

let me run down where this cat's been.
You all know i'm a workaholic when i get a project
well this ones been one where i've had very little time or non to get out.

I'm been working for a BDSM site in secondlife helping them out
it's very friendly and fun community.
though with all communities in SecondLife
it has it's ups and downs.

I've been working hard to help them out.

Revelstoke

Today we've been to revelstoke.

This town is very very friendly, it's refreshing and nice.

We went to see the hydro dam.

and some hot springs across the columbian lake / river, i get confused which it is.

However it's still very pleasant.

Tomorrow we will be back in Penticton to do some more vine planting for my aunts vineyard.

I miss home much more now.

But then we have about 6 days to go.

I have a lot of projects for this summer to do.

Canada really does make one understand that anything is possible.

We just got to banff I wonder who named

Taser International vs Linden Lab: Crack Den crackdown

Taser International Inc have filed a lawsuit against Linden Lab (and others, including some present and some departed) staff. We got a hold of the April 17 complaint yesterday, and have been going through it since then. We've got a summary of the complaint and issues for you, but we won't be linking to the complaint due to the presence of what may be considered to be pornographic images in Exhibit 2. The "crack den" reference in the headline is a recurring phrase in the legal complaint. You'll see why.

If you want the one-sentence summary, Taser seem to have failed to do their homework and basic research, but their case doesn't seem to be entirely without merit either.

The claims

The complaint claims: Trademark infringement, unfair competition, violation of the Lanham act (that's trademarks again), false designation and trade dress infringement (trademarks and copying of styles and designs), Arizona common law trademark/trade name infringement (trademarks again), design patent infringement, RICO violations (that's the Racketeer Influenced and Corrupt Organizations Act, originally set out to prosecute the Mafia and organized crime), and "the inducement of all claims above".

The defendants

The defendants are listed as: Linden Research Inc (otherwise known to us as Linden Lab), Linden Lab (eh?), Philip Rosedale (founder and chairman of Linden Lab), Mark Kingdon (Lab CEO), Frank Ambrose (SVP Global Technology), Sandy Gould (Vice-President of Human Resources), Tom Hale (Chief Product Officer), Brian Michon (Vice-President Core Technologies), Joe Miller (Vice-President Platform and Technology), Marty Roberts (General Counsel), Cyn Skyberg (Vice-President Customer Relations), Ginsu Yoon (That's Gene Yoon, departing Vice-President Corporate Development), John Zdanowski (former Linden Lab Chief Financial Officer), and all related individuals.

But wait, there's more.

Also named as defendants are Virtuatrade LLC, Xstreet SL and Jay Geeseman. Virtuatrade LLC is the former owner of Xstreet SL whose status is a bit uncertain since the Lab's acquisition of it. Geeseman, the owner of Virtuatrade LLC is presently employed as "Technical Lead, eCommerce" at Linden Lab.

That's quite a list of claims and defendants.

So, what's this actually all about?

Basically a few people in Second Life make some digital replicas of Taser's products that do not have the same function as Taser's products, or props that have the Taser name, but do not have any functions or resemblance similar to Taser products. [EDIT: There are two kinds of taser-themed items. The first kind look like Taser International's product line, and may have the Taser trademark name, but do not and cannot have similar functions. The second kind just carry the Taser trademark name, but do not have any similar functions and do not visibly resemble Taser International's products]

Some of these content creators also manufacture/sell material that Taser describes as pornographic, or offensive, and they feel that their brand is being linked with these prurient materials, and that they're losing business and sales to Linden Lab.

Wait... what? What's Linden Lab got to do with this case anyway? Shouldn't this be aimed at the content creators themselves?

Well, normally nothing. Normally you'd just have the content creators named as defendants. Taser's complaint doesn't show much (if any) understanding of what's going on, but it does seem as if they have inadvertently hit a nail on the head.

Since Linden Lab's acquisition of Xstreet SL, the Lab is no longer mediating transactions between buyers and sellers. Xstreet SL arguably retails on behalf of sellers, and takes a commission. It's going to be difficult to argue that the Lab/Xstreet SL is not selling these items.

That potentially places the Lab in the liability loop.

Isn't that kind of splitting hairs?

Yes, but that's the kind of hair-splitting that defines a modern, complex legal system.

So what's this "crack den" thing about?

One of the businesses that makes Taser replicas in Second Life (The Newman Group) does a heavy trade in an urban role-play setting called The Crack Den. More than 50 instances of various variations of its name are littered throughout the complaint. The complaint does not appear to draw any distinction between the users and Linden Lab insofar as liability goes, due to the sales on Xstreet SL.

In order to demonstrate the negative associations to Taser's brand, a number of prurient images are provided in Exhibit 2 showing locations in which Taser alleges that costume replicas of its products are being sold. So, we won't be showing you the actual source.

At the time of writing, you can see many of the allegedly infringing products on the Xstreet SL marketplace. Some of them have been recently updated to indicate that they are not official Taser products.

The complaint

The complaint has been filed with the Arizona District Federal Court, and the Judge is Roslyn O Silver (nominated by US President Clinton in 1994).

The complaint is seeking significant damages (in excess of US$75,000), asserting that everyone named has willfully, knowingly and with foreknowledge deliberately violated Taser's rights. So, treble damages for patent infringement, cost of damages, all profits earned from sales, fines for unfair competition, fines for misappropriation, legal fees, plus anything else "the court deems proper and necessary" (a bit of legal boilerplate).

If successful, then under Arizona Revised Statutes Taser can be granted US$500 per infringing copy (or manufacturer's retail price, whichever is greater). Considering that the most expensive replica being sold in Second Life is of the order of US$2, it seems as if the US$500 figure will be the one used.

Unfortunately the complaint appears to have had chunks of it copied and pasted from other complaints -- either that or the people who prepared the document have little idea about what and who they're filing suit against (or perhaps both).

There are a number of interesting gaps. Linden Research Inc trades as Linden Lab, but the complaint names them separately. It describes Linden Research Inc as "an entity of unknown origin", whereas six seconds with Google would tell you that they're a corporation registered in Delaware (as is Taser International Inc, coincidentally).

Trademarks and designs

Certainly some of the incorporeal objects being sold in-world bear Taser's trademarks, product names or product descriptions. None of the devices are firearms, or deliver an electric current, or immobilize a victim, so far as we can determine (without a victim's cooperation, no harm can come to their avatars in Second Life), so most of these incorporeal devices are sparkly novelty costume props.

Taser International Inc, however, has trademarks for the Taser name for everything from belt-buckles to underwear and novelty products. It is unlikely that the Taser name can be applied to anything without infringing on at least one registered trademark. The props being sold in Second Life would certainly fit into the novelty products category.

We're kind of wondering why a DMCA notice wasn't sufficient in this case. We can't find any mention in the 102 page complaint and exhibits that Taser International Inc sought to file one.

Trivia note: TASER is an acronym named for a device in fiction: Thomas A. Swift's Electric Rifle (TASER), from the popular series of novels written by house pseudonym Victor Appleton.

Case merits

As absurd as it might seem, Taser's case appears to have some merit to it, despite what seems to be a sloppy complaint.

Linden Lab's acquisition of Xstreet SL seems to have opened it up to direct liability, as it seems difficult to argue that it is now merely a mediator of transactions.

Trademarks and design patents, almost certainly have been violated, though the damages to Taser International Inc seem to verge on the insignificant, and the matter could have been cleared up quickly with a DMCA notice.

Ultimately, we expect the parties to settle out-of-court, rather than fight this through to the end.

being rich and happy... it's rare, it does happen, but it's not for me. I would rather work hard to be rich and take time to make friends and live withing my means, then win the lottery and be instantly rich as if some divine whim pointed at me and said "from now you will have all the money you want".

life is for living. so for me living means doing everything my body is capable of doing and that includes living through tough times. It's charactor building.

Weekend away at the beach

Well I wouldn't call it a sunny holiday by any means,
Howevery I would say it was a good get away from life.

I just took a short weekend to brighton to get some inspiration,
to work on how I will eventually move down there, and hopefully
to find out what sort of work I could potentially get down there.

What did I do while there?
I looked at a house that was advertised online which to be fair,
the house was beautieful from a students perspective and the room
that they had going was fabulous, that's not to say they will be calling
me back, with a room like that i suspect they will have a look of people
after it, that in mind they are about a 10 minute walk away from the
univercity of Brighton itself and a 15 minute walk to the Univercity of
West Sussex, thus the greater appeal to a room in their household.

But aside from that I enjoyed looking at the house, 5 bedrooms 3 toilets
2 bathrooms, 1 kitchen, a garden and a living room.
Have to be honest I hope they call me back because I would love a place in
that house. However lets get back to the reality of I should just keep looking.

I went out on friday night to the revamped "candybar" that they have been taken over
by the London "Ghetto and thus they now call it "The Ghetto" like the rest of the Ghetto
franchise, we also went (we I met up with some friends
I haven't seen I years who gotto uni there) and we went around some other bars, don't ask me names I never remember bar names well.

On Saturday my brother had an exhibition for his work, which by all means my brother makes fantastic art work, you cannot shame it, he invited over 1000 people and I suspect throughout the day 500 came, and his art works I have to admit that I myself am a little jealous of his courage to first of all keep at it and second that he's doing so well with it that he can pay his rent with it.

on Saturday night I pretty much did the same as I did on friday but this time I didn't go with any friends and I met up with some wonderfully friendly cross dressers, and I am not just saying this, they were some of the nicest strangers I have met, fronted by a cutie called natalie who was actually a real girl from london area, and some how I ended up going to the club revenge which is one of the better brighton clubs because it is always jammed full of people.

So Sunday was a bit of a rainy head spin, i woke up at 11am and from there I was set on getting home, I got the 12:30 train to London Victoria, I got off at Clapham junction at 1:10pm, from there I got the train to Reading, from Reading I got the 3:15pm train to Swansea and got off and Newport South Wales, and there I had to wait for about an hour in the icey English weather for the Manchester Picidile train where I got off at Leominster about 6:45pm, and no this journey was not fun really.

Every stop on this line was like a rainbow of different weather, Brighton was Sunny and warm, Clapham Junction was mildly icey cold sort of frosty. Reading however poured it down like there was no such thing as the word "stop" so I got soaked waiting to get the Swansea train. Got Off at Newport and OMG was that cold, wet and dank, If I wasn't weather a coat I could swear that I would of got hypothermia. Finally Back home in Leominster, it was sunny, warm and very dry as if it hadn't of seen a lick of the weather that was evident further down the line from whence I came to get home from.

This was my weekend, It was short, it was busy, it was fun, when I came home I passed out from being that tired.

So the winter seems to have vanished into the inandated warmth near the end of february in the uk that is. Things are mild a bit nippy but not overly to bad.

I think the Uk is looking down the barrel to a HOT summer, with all this global warming jive it doesn't suprise me to why.

However the reason I believe that it will be hot it simple really when you thing abut it. If you can walk home in a T-shirt at the end of february, it has to be pretty warm.

This is a continuation of the "SLX Up Raw", post we wrote about earlier.

It seems the the SLX Admins have retracted their reaction to the ever growing protest thread on the SLX Forums by changing the logging in process back and forwards, one hour you can be on the forums.

Then say it is an "off peek" hour it goes back to logging in every 20 - 30 minutes, merchants and customers alike are signing this petition to have this "adjustment" put back to the way it was before, where you could log in and stay logged in for up to a month at a time.

The SLX Admins claim that they are doing this to ensure the security of every account used on SLX, however one thing they may have skipped in their attempt to make SLX more secure is the fact that more then 1 IP Adress, does not automatically mean "hacking" or even "sharing" an account.

A lot of XStreet.com users have REAL LIVES, with real jobs, this is seperate from their SecondLives and their SecondLife Jobs. A lot of SLX users write to the forums from their work machines, these will have a seperate IP address to their Home Personal Computer IP addresses.

Does this escape LindenLab and the SLX Admins, we would be suprised if it does.

However the verdict from all SLX Users on this Log in Issue, is that it is VERY annoying.

The best way to read is without interruptions so each book has been made to a spesific size so that you need to zoom into them to read thema nd turn the pages while reading without interruption from other people.

These books will also be useful for Dominants in the BDSM community to use as a guide on how their submissive / slaves should or should not behave. These books are not a replacement for training a Sub or Slave but more an aid to help teaching them.

Non Unique Hit counter?

What's that all about?

Simple really I've had a few comments in game and in im about how the normal hit counter reflects a low number for visitors to this blog.

But then I haven't mentioned much about it. We at the Squad have Moved the refreshing hit counter to the top of the blog with the other.

You see the Main hit counter you see in this blogs header, counts unique IP Adresses, so refreshing the page does nothing to it, we at the Squad felt that this was nessasery to be more honest about how many NEW readers we have every week and every day.

So the top left hand counter is for Unique IP Adresses.

The non unique hit counter does not count off of IP Adresses, it runs off of page views, so if you refresh the page or close the page and come back it reads that "hit" each time you come back to the blog here.

The one above this at the top of the blogroll in the middle is a complete views over all counter.

We hope this can clean up any curiousitys.

P.S: We at Squad Village cannot see your ip addresses that get counted by the top or lower counter, they count the hits themselves, not us.

For the past 4 days XStreet users have been in a state of perpetual annoyance,
As the Lindens decided that it would be an interesting experiement,
To force relogging into the XStreeSL.com website every couple of hours.

The Lindens explained that this was a temporary measure to ensure usage was secure,
Also that they would return the log in issue within a short time.

In the mean time the Users of XStreet.com have stages a thread protest,
Along with some in world protests at all the heavy changes to the XStreet website.

Users report a return to normality today, however some stay sceptical to what the future holds.

Bigger is Better?

X-Box killer given life sentence

An illiterate teenager who was convicted of stabbing a boy to death at a house party in Manchester has been given a life sentence.
Shane Boyd, 16, will serve at least 11 years for the murder of Conor Black after an argument over an X-Box game.
Conor, also aged 16, collapsed and died minutes after he was stabbed outside the house in Moston last August.
Boyd, who boasted that he was "the man" after the attack, was found guilty at Manchester Crown Court.
Boyd had admitted manslaughter but his plea was rejected by the court. He was found guilty of murder last month.
Conor and his friends had gone to the the house in Gill Street after accepting an invitation to a party.
The court heard Boyd confronted Conor in the early hours of 16 August over allegations of theft of a console game.
Boyd came out of the house and smashed his victim over the head with a can of lager, before stabbing him in the back as he turned to escape, the jury heard.
Conor ran a short distance to a grassy area where he collapsed and died. The stab wound had severed a main artery.
The court heard Boyd then stood in the road shouting that "he was the best, he was the man" - before threatening to kill anyone who mentioned his name to police.
Speaking after the sentencing, the family released a statement through Greater Manchester Police saying they were devastated by Conor's death.
"We are a close family, we look after each other and Conor had a bed in everyone's house.
"He was cheeky and had a laugh, and he was also very caring and loving. Sometimes he would come in just for a cuddle; that's the way he was.
"All the hopes and dreams of a family were crushed when Conor's life was stolen in that terrible, violent way.
"His mum lost her friend, her child, her life and that makes us so very sad and helpless."

Inside the Grid

Playing the game for years now we have some assumptions on "the insider" view.

New players find it tough to join.
Old players are definately know it alls.

Lindens can be one of the either, but neither the less it's a learning curb.

People come to SL expecting to do 2 things:

Play a game
Make money

Person one gets dissapointed that it's not an MMORPG and it's more chat based.
Person two gets dissapointed after realising that they actually need talent to make money or money invest to make more money back.

us oldie oldie players watch the 2 and try to help how we can or we turn away and think "huh noob".

So should we teach thoughs who wont learn or learn from thoughs who want to learn and change.
So SL can spread and multiply.

Side thoughts all the time.

Summer time in february

Everyone knows that with the "credit crunch" money and time are falling hard on thoughs and saving money is important to help things keep moving.

So what does this mean?
Why am I bringing this up?

Fact is we wer working fantastically well with web based information on live communities in and around SecondLife, so as a matter of course we have had to cut back on one thing but we don't see it as much of an issue.

Due to all of our staff's busy and hectic life schedules around their real lifes and their SecondLives we have noticed that we cannot really afford to "man" a sim any longer, so in the interests of keeping things running her online we have given up with sim of Nephthys to someone who will find it a better prospect for usage.

This isn't the end of our inworld locations by any means, we are simply downsizing our head office in gave to something more affordable, less confusing and more productive.

More info on this will come soon so stay tuned as we get the updates on this for you.

to summerise: We have left the sim of Nephthys behind us in pursuite of something much more affordable and easier to manage for our staff.

The Nephthy INgame group will be closing however we will be inviting all Nephthys group member to come and join the SquadVillage InGame group so that people aren't left in the dark, to Join the SquadVillage group is free for all.

We will be opening an advertising group to anyone who is interested.

To quelch any fears about the website, the website will stay open, the blog will stay open and we will not be shutting them ever. So don't pack your bags just yet.

Driving funny

Alrighty then.

Yes for the last 6 months I have take the leap from watching cars on TV, building them in SecondLife and riding in them on my jounrey to work ~ To Learning to drive one, not an easy task and all the swamp of info that comes with it.

I mean OMG, you'ld never imagen the stupid things that can happen, and I'm not just talking about running out of petrol on the dual carriageway when you're travelling at 60MPH and your instructor knows that the next garage is more then 2 miles away and really it was his fault saying to you "oh it's ok we'll last till the next garage" then you sit and think to yourself how he became an instructor.

You GET THROUGH THE THEORY TEST which is now actually a bit like a computer game of answering questions and watching a video where you have to click a mouse, the video shows you short films of people doing stupid things on the road and you have to click the mouse when you see them about to do the stupid thing that they are about to do. This takes a matter of 3 weeks of reading 2 books and watching 1 dvd and using their computer interactive software to teach you what thoughs colourful signs mean. (I will elaborate later about this).

Then you got for 60 hours of driving which at £22 = $44's a lesson is sort of reasonable in the UK and I now understand why 60 is a good idea even though the legal minimun driving hours you need is 25 with an instructor or driving adult, which I have to be honest now the only way someone could do that is if they had been driving from a younger age like introduced to it younge, where as a brand new driver i'ld say 45 hours minimun would be sensible.

So you spend all that time, driving about, learning manuvers, crashing into curbs, scraping the paint off of car doors, knocking into walls with a feather light touch because you're learning to go steady when parking. You're checking under the bonnet every 10th lesson to make sure you know which fluid goes in what ( yes on the UK test you have to know what is under the bonnet ) and this whole time your nice little car you got starts to look a bit like a bush with all the mud it's got caped on it with all the tree twiggs from the country side roads around your town.

So you get the hang of it all finally, you know to check your mirrors for the invisible man, indicate to the parked car and wave at other drivers who let you pass them by and learn to let them pass you but too, you notice that people will pull out infront of you just because your automative bush has an "L" plate attached to it, you will get annoyed at the 7 ton truck that's right up your car's behind, trying to make you go faster while you're listening to your instructor.

You will panick for the life of you when the instructor puts his duel brake on because you wont reaconise why the car is stopping when you're trying to go forward and you think it's safe by they know better then you, and you know they know better but it will fustrate the living daylights out of you. Waking up at 7 am before work to get in an extra hour wont be fun, going to bed at 10pm because you thought it was clever to have a 9pm lesson to get used to driving in the dark, and the thing that will annoy you more then anything is the fast that at night NOT EVERYONE UNDERSTANDS THAT TURNING THE HIGH BEAM OFF WONT BLIND OTHER DRIVERS.

So you've been doing it for what now 6 months had about 100 lessons because well you don't know anyone who you can practise with so your instructor is the only one who can go out with you in the car. You book your practical, you are now driving like you were getting on a bike and pedalling, and you aren't making mistakes, you are virtually a robot in that little dirty car, it is dirty because of all the mud tracks your instructor has taken you on so that you don't bother other road users while you're learning and it's quieter so you can concerntrate. But BY NOW, You only remember half the road signs you learnt for your theary test, but by this point it doesn't really matter because you're thoughtful and aware of how the roads work now.

So you're all ready and you get to the test center you are all geared up, you aren't even nervious anymore, you aren't over confident or inconsiderate, you are feeling just right for this test. The Examiner walks out and says..........

(Tell you what he says in a second.)

You've been warming up by taking an extra hour before the test to warm up you have been around the town for a while, checked out all the routes the examiner is likely to take, you've rehersed all of your manuvers, the roads are fine, they are gritted, it's a nice morning, maybe it's alittle cold but it's warming up nicely.

And the Examiner comes out and says: "Sorry we've had to cancel your test it is to icey". please bare in mind this man hasn't been out side of his office since 7AM when he first attempted a test with another student and at 7AM in february it generally will be a little cold and icey, I turn up at 10AM so a lot fo the ice has melted and everything is actually a lot better considering, this guy's been in his office since 7am doing paper work, so he looks a bit toastie, he's got his cup of coffee and even though he is very polite you get the sense that he really doesn't want to test students learning to drive.

I know, I know, I shouldn't grumble so. He was only being caughtious and he doesn't want to cause any accidents and he's worried that something stupid might happen. but still it's very fustrating especially when You're there, you're all smart and tidy, you've been warmed up to driving early and you're ready for it.

This isn't the fustrating part, the Only next slot avaliable for a test is in 5 weeks time.

Thoughts?

I know this is a long read but honestly, I'ld like to know what you would think about it. And cut away that this is a driving test. What if it were any other test? you were revising for months and on the test day they said "Sorry we cancelled it, you have to do it in a month".

irritating huh.

Right for the disillusioned and the confused.

We haven't posted much this month.

Some must be going "wtf, wth did you go? what are you so quiet?".

Simply, we have been working very hard to line up the website and all of it's linked venture with you all, we have had out place's scout out collecting hot spots, we have added in a wordpress for the directory to be easy to quickly update and we have been meeting with people INgame and looking at places upfront.

It has been a rollercoaster month for all of us on the squad team, getting everything ready for the main launching of our quick listings, where we will update the directory every sunday with a hand ful of places to visit. we have been promoting in game with the start of our Advert system that will be deployed within the next 2 months, this will be a system that you can pay to have your adverts on and can be quickly updated.

They will be linked throughout SL and be easy to be a part of.

Ontop of all of this exciting news we will be featuring in our HQ some of the top designers that we would recommend in secondlife, offering a select handful of people spots to list some of their items that they well.

Screching like a hive of angry insects.
Shouting and calling to it's group.
Congrigating and then embarking.
As the doors open, pushing, shuving.
Looking for a place to sit.
The pride of animals, relaxing.
Satisfied with their kill, feasting.
In the luxury, conversing in the calm.
Energy encreases, galoping through the urban savanna.
Faster as the creatures become dosile.
Calm with the wait for the destination.
Time but days in the seconds as the beasts continue to wait.

SquadVillage Update

So if you have been paying attention to the fireworks the past
few days you might be pleased to find out that the Squadvillage
has had a make over, the dank green and brown of the website
has been replaced with a modern futuristic green and silver skirting.

Our forums have been updated also with a genercis but astetically
pleasing soft white background, green headers, black writing in the
style that most Second Lifers are accustomed to.

Within this we have also added Blogs to the website to help support
writing in and around SecondLife we have been hunting around for
the good reads on the web for you to all enjoy.

Forthy we have started a directory for Hot spots that YOU as
Second Lifers enjoy to visit, we will be building in a live directory
of sites in game that we would recomment as "must see" in the
game of Second Life, with this we all also personally be visiting
these sites so that we can write LIVE reviews about them
here on the blog so, you don't just get a driectory with a short
info tag, you will also get a short indepth review of what we think
of the places we list.

And lastly we have had a lot of hype about our new forums
We have had many comments left and right of the board about
them however we have plugged a head and got on with the job.
We have opened these forums for just about anyone to use and
with 32 sign ups over a space of a week we think that our followers
agree with us, that this is a step forwards and we are getting a lot
of support for allowing the use of our forums to just about anyone
who would like to be involved with them.

Today we are very happy to share some exciting news with you: Linden Lab has acquired Xstreet SL and OnRez - the two leading Web-based marketplaces for buying and selling creations for Second Life. Over the past few months we’ve been working with the folks at Virtuatrade and the Electric Sheep Company to hammer out the details, and today is the first day that we’ve been able to talk openly about this next step in our evolution.

The Next Chapter for Xstreet SL and OnRez
First off, we’d like to congratulate both teams for their vision, passion and commitment. Xstreet SL and OnRez succeeded because they provided great opportunities for merchants, built delightful experiences for shoppers, and fostered dynamic and creative communities. Hats off to them!

We’d especially like to welcome Apotheus Silverman and the Xstreet SL team. Our goal is make this transition as smooth as possible for you in the weeks ahead. Because our plan is to build on the Xstreet SL platform, so this will be a painless transition for Xstreet SL merchants: your business will continue as usual. Check out the FAQ here for more details.

For Xstreet SL shoppers, no action is necessary as your balances and account information will be unaffected.

We will continue to operate the OnRez marketplace until February 11, 2009. Before that date, OnRez merchants who don’t already have an Xstreet SL account should create an Xstreet SL account and move their assets, balances and account information over to it. We apologize in advance for the inconvenience. Details on creating an Xstreet SL account are here.

If you are an OnRez shopper with a current balance, please transfer your account balances to a Second Life account before February 11, 2009.

New Opportunities
For many residents, shopping inworld is one of the most engaging parts of Second Life. But as many Xstreet SL and OnRez users already know, having a web marketplace to browse and search is a great way to find new designers, keep up with the latest creations, or just find that perfect gift/texture/dress/home/weapon/couch. Our goal is to make the web marketplace a wonderful complement to inworld shopping and a great benefit for all Residents.

Bringing these marketplaces together under the Linden Lab banner will unlock new and exciting opportunities for merchants. We can make it easier for new Residents to discover the wealth of products that can enrich their Second Life experience, and this in turn offers the opportunity for new users to become more invested in Second Life. There is also potential to evolve the shopping experience with new tools (sharable wish lists, anyone? Gifting to non-Residents? Scheduled deliveries?) and capabilities. But like Amazon or Ebay, the core of the experience will always be about efficiency. Kitting out your avatar, buying a house/castle/skybox, or getting your inworld business off of the ground can be done in minutes. The range of offerings is both impressive and accessible and the goods are delivered inworld quickly. SL Global Melt down? will it happen again?

World in perral? or is this the start of a new dawn? Last night SecondLife experienced one of it's biggest gridwide outages for many years. Since the removal of "maintainance wednesday" like many other online 3d interfaces do regularly SecondLife has been running constantly since about May 2008. With ofcourse the odd bump in the road like any machine likes to throw at people.

Second Life Wiki Maintenance

Maintenance will be conducted on the Second Life Wiki Sunday, January 18th, beginning at 1AM PST. The maintenance is expected to last approximately 2 hours. No outage of the wiki is expected, however residents may experience brief hiccups in service when accessing the wiki during this maintenance. "

So we have to ask, why should we put up with this? why not bring back maintainance wednesdays where the grid can be locked for say 2 - 5 hours at a time once a week where they can fix equipement, re roll the servers and clean out the system caches.

Simple answer "YOUR MONEY". Residents have been complaining about "Downtime" from the moment the grid was brought online, people love to play forever and a day without so much as a thought to the equipement that they are using.

When was the last time you restarted your sim cleaning it's cache? because the lindens don't do maintainance days anymore. Imagen leaving a computer on not defragementing it not restarting it, not rebooting it, for 6 months. Most computers would liquifiy their own data like that. Wander why your sim crashes from time to time? BECAUSE YOUR NOT LOOKING AFTER YOUR SERVER THAT IT RUNS ON! simply.

Now imagen that is the entire mainland about 2000 - 3000 servers, and the Lindens don't do maintainance days remember. WHO HELPS OUT YOUR LOCAL MAINLAND SIM? if noone is helping the server.

So everyone last time when it went down went into "i'm an addict i need my fix" mode and well you all cry and complain but the fact is.

If you don't want this to happen again, partition the lindens to bring back maintainance wednesdays, just say 2 - 6 hours once a week to fix things that go wrong.

Had you inventory swallowed by LL, wish it didn't, wandered why? never got an answer? You try running you machine for 6 months, never ever turn it off, never ever reboot it, just leave it on and stay in secondlife, when sl crashes just log back in. and try not to crash your machine.

Well think about it. if the lindens had a block of time to fix it so that it worked nicely and all the issues could be patched, upgraded and fixed. you would make more money in SL because people who see a company that care about itself are attracted because they care about it too.

That little coin on "if you don't make yourself look good, noone else sees it either". So do we like SecondLife enough to tell them fix the machinery that it runs on? or would we rather have all of our inventorys sucked into the black hole in the asset servers where content dissapears to and never returns from?

You decide.

But the next big break down.

Nephthys Library ~ Open and growing

We all know that you as readers, enjoy reading the blogs here. With the fan base growing daily and us collecting new readers of the blog, we have a short announcement for all the SL players of you all.

At our home sim of Nephthys we are opening a library that you can all pop on down and browse through and select different things to read and enjoy. We will have short storys, poetry and much more avaliable, Citty Toshi being our sim Scribe will be adding to the collection on Nephthys to help our library grow as well as my self Roxie will be writing to add to it too.

We hope that you will all come down and take a look, maybe read a little and enjoy the sim of Nephthys with us we have a good reading space and all the storys are on short notecards so that you can all enjoy them in small chunks.

Some of the storys we will charge a small amount for as to help us keep Nephthys alive and well but we wont charge more then 50L for thoughs.

Sides for the Roleplay Decided in Nephthys

We have finally came to a conclusion on what the roles for the roleplay in Nephthys should be.

We have 3 roles for the sim and they stand as follows:

Wonderers: These are New roleplayers to the sim, they can be anyone who wanders into the sim. being a wonderer you are a neutural player, you are neither good or evil, you can choose to become one of the following 2 roles as you please, the "Wonderers" are a starting role so that plays can take time before deciding which team they want to play for, Good or Evil.

Nekroids: These are people who choose to become members of Roxie's gang on the sim, these are people who are uneffected from the radiation in the Nephthys story and are happy to be as they are.

Cydroids: These are people who choose to become members of Yohii's gang on the sim, these are a race of cyborgs, they can be any species or type of person, they grow implants and are people who are drawn to technology so much that they become part of it literally.

These roles have been determinded by the staff on Nephthys and we believe that these will be good fun roles to decide the battle of Good v's Evil on the sim.

Players who come to the sim can be of any of the fractions and play a part in the sim. We also have the sim Scribes, these will be the information keepers of the sim, they will be determined from any of the fractions, you can be a Wonderer, Cydriod or a Nekroid to be a scribe, our head Scribe is Citty Toshi and all Scribes will be his work force. Being a scribe will make you a neutral party but also a spy and a theaf.

The Scribes can influence any of the 3 fractions as they feel fit.

So if you would like to come on down to Nephthys to choose your role feel free to come and contact one of the admins at the sim to which role you would feel most comfortable playing out.

Cyanide, The Newest Line Of Pericings And Tatto's

In My Personal Time, I spend hours or days looking for that one shop that just looks good all around, and loosk good on me as well. Well I was at Nyte'n'Day, A very popular casual clothing line, And saw a woman and Guy there, I chatted with them slightly for a few. They told me about CYANIDE, their new shop they were opening and they needed models. So of course, they let me do an application and i join. They are Fantastic, if i must say so myself. withen two weeks they've made it up to lsiting 7 when you search the word"piercings". They are a well organized group.

So as all you readers will be aware. Nephthys our home sim isn't just a place that we hang out at, It is also a roleplay sim where the roleplay drama of Good V's Evil carrys on like most sims do.

We are head hunting story writters to help us enrich our basis.

We have our basic story down so that's not what we're looking for.

We are hunting out people who would like to be a part of a growing team and help us in our quest to write the little storys that make roleplay worth taking part in. We are looking for enthusiastic writers who are happy to write out charactor roles within the sim, love storys, poetry and more.

If you feel that you're good with pen and paper and want to get your storys read by real people and are happy to take part in a LIVE story which is the sims roleplay, then this is probably the opertunity that you have been waiting for.

Yesterdays Book reading

So as you all can or have read, yesterday we invited JodiAnn Saphir to come and read for us at our home sim of nephthys, All in all we got a wonderful turn out of about 30 people who came to listen to the story telling of the well rejoiced real world Author TammyJo Eckhart boasting an impressive 6 publications that are published through the world famous online book store amazon.com.

TammyJo's reading was interesting and erotic as that is her fortee being that she is a well celebrated BDSM and adult book author. She read from 2 of her current releases the one we were excited to hear was Circle of Blood a book based around Vampire erotica, telling the story of a vampire hunter who is taken in by the dark elements of the vampires world.

We would like to thank TammyJo for coming to read to us Live at the sim of Nephthys and re invite her back for easter to do another reading of one of her other publications in future.

The Squad Publishes: Nephthy's first photo album

Roxie dear, you made me travel back in time and it feels like 10 years have past... There is so much to tell. So much fun we have had and so much nice people to thank..

First of all, I am honored you asked me to be part of your community. Below I try to give a few answers to your questions.

Why did you join Second Life in the first place?

I read about Secondlife in some magazine and checked it out. I live in Holland and I am the owner of a small graphic design studio. Part of my work is designing trade show boots with 3D software. I always used Strata Studio Pro for my 3D work but today I design and build in Second Life. Second Life is so much easier to use. I can take my clients by the hand, show the designs in a Real 3D environment and adjust designs on the fly.

What inspired you to create?

I have always been creating 2D and 3D artwork and design for my RL business. Second Life is so much fun I do not only use it for my RL work but also started to create fun items like juwelry. Now I had the product I needed a kiosk to sell them;-). But what is a kiosk without classy furniture? I decided to choose Japanese furniture as my theme and thus my first Japanese couches were born: http://xstreetsl.com/modules.php?name=Marketplace&file=item&ItemID=209188

People realy loved my designs and I started to build a Japanese garden with pavilions around my items. The Hosoi Ichiba was born. Next step was to set the them and environment to match all. Today I have 6 Japanese themed sims and about 500+ items up for sale. Most of the time I build what I need for my scenery and then set the item or building for sale.

Back then the ichiba was floating on a platform above a desert. In this desert we build a gold mining game with mines, landslides, sandstorms, tumbleweds, axes, detectors and all. The scenery was perfect but not many people came over to play. September 2007 my good friend Armoe Lipo died. His sudden death was a turning point for me. I deleted the desert and rebuild the Ichiba around a garden dedicated to Armoe on ground level. I started building like crazy, just to ease my mind. And the Hosoi Ichoba as today was born. If you look around the centre garden in the Hosoi Ichiba you will find a little stone to remember Armoe. Every now and then I still sit there to think and sort my mind.

and What are your future plans in Second Life?

My future plans.... For the
fun part I want to finish my sims and convert the area to a RPG. I really would like to see traditional Japanese people live in my sims (for free that is) This would be a win win. The Hosoi Ichiba will attract more business and residents will have the scenery and place to play/live their SL lives.

In Second Life I have 4 wonderful girls that help me out as sales associates and public relations. The are on the payroll and earn 10% of the weekly turnover. I see Hosoi Ichiba as a major content provider for Second Life and try to always improve quality and experience.

Second Life is just the beginning and will be the next internet revolution. I really want to be part of the pioners.

Second Life, New Year? New Look? Part 2

We don't usually follow up a story, but in this case we have found that one off exemption.

This little segment page of the SL Website.

Yes we have condensed this but it is just a gentle
nudge at what we thought the SL website was missing.

Low and behold to our researchers amazement. It is there,
that little chunk of info page we were thinking of, but then
this is the amazing part.

No where in thous main page pictures does it go through to
this wonderful little helpful chunk that could change the minds of hundreds of players.

Let me show you where it is on that fantastic new age, good looking beauty model we call the Second Life home page. Have to excuse the blurry images we have blurred for respectful reasons for the Linden Lab Copyright.
We have drawn a red ring around the "What is" tab, if you open the http://www.secondlife.com website you will get what we are pointing at.

I hear the muttering of the words, "Great so what's the issue, you guys obviously could find it easily, it's right there top left.. right?". Well quite frankly, it's there but it's not what you look at first, your eyes automatically go to the 'dazzle' pictures.

It would be a well reasoned debate on the fact that the "What is" page is there you just have to open your eyes, we aren't going to question that at all, what we will question though is. Why is it that when you Click on the images, they don't go through to this page anyway, and from there have a link written in the text of the page that then takes you through to the log in page. Yes there is that big

Section where it is easy enough to understand. It is in big bold letters after all "JOIN NOW". We aren't saying that, this is bad, what we are saying is that it doesn't give enough credit to the new users intelligent, we are in the click mania generation, where we just click something because it looks good.

Or have we grown past that where the Internet is growing up and we
don't just randomly click things anymore but we actually would like a little but of substance to what we are clicking these days.

Now we are looking more at this section, the one with all the big words in it. That explains the following:

This is where we are at, a whole shpell about how SecondLife is interesting, useful, social and how a lot of the game has been created by the SecondLife residents. However, Where is the signing up link in this text? We are given "the World", then "the Creations" Finally "The Marketplace" What we found interesting, not one of these links go to the registration page.

So why all the fuse? Well to round this one up, Simply, people ignore this page, then they wonder "what can I do", after signing up and logging in for the first time, if this page was updated and put into the main pages picture system. It would be a lot more effective. Saving time and money that goes on answering phone calls to people who really just need in game mentoring support anyway.

Being effective, thoughtful and open minded that other people just might not know as much as you do, can help a company change from a money tycoon to a customer friendly money tycoon, happy customers, easy money, keep them happy and you will get rewarded.

Second Life WebSite. New Year? New Look?

Life of the online virtual gamer usually comes back to chat, whether you are an MMORPG fan or just happy to play about with a little 2D room full of people who use the well known smiley.

Within the last week Second Life has made a drastic new change to their website.

Making it a picture click activated extravaganza, where every little picture on it's home page opens up with a little info on what the picture is. Our Blogger here are Squad Village have been testing it all out and have been reporting back to me "Roxie" that the con tense that the Second Life home page is using, is a completion of all of the hot spots that the Lindens are residents of the game Second Life that they find fun/ interesting and useful.

We at first made out initial questions which our number one, which we suspect every user who is "into" Second Life must be asking.

How user friendly is it to people who do not play Second Life in the first place?

We mealy ask this on the semantic basis, that there are still thousands of computer users, who simply do not know what Second Life is. Granted that people can find out, what we are asking is, how friendly are Linden Lab making Second Life to new players?

Do they care? or is it just another marketing ploy that is aimed towards the worlds business sector in the hope that this will breathe new life into the virtual platform.

While researching all of the tabs we found the notable tabs that instruct a user to "get started". Where upon clicking to get started the website directs the person who is clicking to sign up for Second life with a new account. This helped raise further questions on the virtual platforms professional look, and to cut to the point, why would a well established company push new players into signing up so hastily, the main of our question is based on that evil little coin, lack of information.

Why? one of our editors has asked us, why is information so important? well the simple answer to this is, you don't sign a contract without reading the small print, you don't buy a car without finding out how it works (test driving it) and lastly you probably wouldn't buy a computer without finding out exactly what its spec was first.

We aren't saying that the new layout is wrong or bad, we are simply saying as a review of the new look it's good, but needs more information. We at the Squad are older Second Life players, our experiences have been down and up, over all the latter of thous two, but this new layout leaves little for the new players intelligence.

People always say, you need to play Second Life to find out what it is like, this is true to an extent, but without being told what's going to happen to a persons computer after downloading the program before they download it leaves a lot to be desired.

So rather then being a negative Nancy we were giving this crit in a constructive one set.

Thumbs up on the look, it's great, but rather then going through to the registration page, there should be and info page wedged in the middle, to let new players find out more before they get thrown in at the deep end.

It wouldn't need to be a huge chunk of frazzle and dazzle singing and dancing kind of set up, just something easy that explains to a new person what they can do.

one of the largest complaints from new players is "there is not enough information on what we can do once we've started" or on the other hand "there is to much that we can do and there is not enough direction on what we should be doing".

Second Life has welcome areas, and places to hang out, which is great, but to start mentoring it should be from ground zero, before a new player has downloaded the software. It doesn't have to be in a huge chunk of info, but it shouldn't be in a tiny chunk of info that makes no sense to someone who's never used it before.

There could be 3 schools of information to set a new player on a path, we all agree that people should be free to choose and do as they please, but lets be honest if you give a man a fish, he will eat for a day, but if you get a man a net, he will eat for the rest of his life.

So for the New player, lets call him average Joe 1, just got home from work a little bored wants to meet people and hang out, there should be information on what he can do, where he can go and how he can hang out and meet new people.

For average Joe 2, joining Second Life as a university student wanting to make stuff and do graphics courses, give him that information and send him to the places in Second Life where he can learn how to use the creativity tools.

and lastly for average Joe 3, I'm a coding genius I want to learn a new coding language, send him to groups who can help and give him that sort of information, let him find out how to make thous things.

If we the Second Life community put more order into making Second Life easier to understand and quicker to use, we might just grow more then 100 people a day, we might have hordes of new players every hour, and not just alternative avatar accounts for people who already play.

If we want fresh blood, then we have to make it easier for that fresh blood to get into the system and grow.

So as you all remember in the summer with our Broccon snowball coming to an end.

We had a helper called Yohii.

After a long 6 month revive, Yohii is rejoining our team and helping out once more.

We have invited he back to our new home in Nephthy's to open a purely Adult themed club.

As we have a mesh of wood and metal we will support this venture.

More than two million computers worldwide have been infected because of a major security flaw in Microsoft's Internet Explorer web browser, the software giant admitted today.

Security experts urged people to switch to rival browsers such as Firefox, Opera or Safari, until the bug has been fixed.

The problem, first revealed last week, allows criminals to take over computers and steal passwords if the user visits an infected website.

As many as 10,000 sites have already been compromised to take advantage of the flaw, according to anti-virus software producer Trend Micro.

So far the websites, which are mostly Chinese, have been used to steal computer game passwords which can be sold on the black market.

Hackers can secure up to £9,000 for these passwords from fanatical gamers. But Trend Micro security researcher Paul Ferguson confirmed there were major concerns that the problem could be exploited by 'more financially motivated criminals for more serious mayhem'.

John Curran, head of Microsoft's Windows commercial business group in the UK, said the company was 'working around the clock' to fix the problem.

'What we have seen in terms of infection is this is 0.2 per cent of Internet Explorer users,' he said.

'Obviously when you are talking about a customer base of over one billion people, any amount of vulnerability is too much and any type of infection is going to see a large number of people affected by it.'

This equates to more than two million infected machines - although Mr Curran said the flaw was primarily being exploited in China.

Microsoft said it had so far only found attacks against version 7 of Internet Explorer, the world's most popular web browser, but warned that other versions were 'potentially vulnerable'.

In a security update issued yesterday, the computer giant said: 'We are actively investigating the vulnerability that these attacks attempt to exploit.

'We will continue to monitor the threat environment and update this advisory if this situation changes.'

Microsoft may fix the problem in its regular monthly security update or issue an emergency software patch.

Microsoft said it had so far only found attacks against version 7 of Internet Explorer, but warned that other versions were 'potentially vulnerable'

PC Pro magazine's security editor, Darien Graham-Smith, said hackers were always on the look out for new ways to access penetrate computers.

'The message needs to get out that this malicious code can be planted on any web site, so simple careful browsing isn't enough.

'Every browser is susceptible to vulnerabilities from time to time. It's fine to say 'don't use Internet Explorer' for now, but other browsers may well find themselves in a similar situation,' he said.

According to the Microsoft warning, an attacker could host a specially crafted website that is designed to exploit the flaw through Internet Explorer and then convince a user to view the Web site.

The attacker could also take advantage of compromised websites and sites that accept or host user-provided content or advertisements.

These could contain specially crafted content that could exploit the flaw. In all cases, however, an attacker would have no way to force users to visit these websites.

Instead, the fraudster would have to convince users to visit the site, typically by getting them to click a link in an e-mail message or in an Instant Messenger message that takes users to the attacker's site.

It could also be possible to display specially crafted web content by using banner advertisements or by using other methods to deliver web content to affected systems.

The flaw requires that a user is logged on and reading e-mail messages or is visiting websites for any malicious action to occur.

Therefore, any systems where e-mail messages are read or where Internet Explorer is used frequently, such as workstations or terminal servers, are at the most risk from this vulnerability.
